A Special Blessing
We gave Sister King a blessing on Wednesday. Sister King is this amazing Chinese lady who used to be one of the strongest members in the branch until she got Lou Gerig's disease (sp?). Last year she was driving herself to church, teaching lessons, magnifying her church calling, and now she's confined to a bed. She can barely speak, eat, and sleep. She should pass away pretty soon. Anyways, we randomly received a phone call last Wednesday from the stake relief society and then from Sister King's daughter saying Sister King needed a Chinese blessing. At the time we were with our district at lunch, but we immediately dropped what we were doing and went and gave her a blessing. We actually had a prompting to call Brother Ke to help us. Brother Ke is new in the branch so we thought it was a little weird to ask him, but we had the prompting and followed it. Brother Ke showed up to her house asking who he was about to give a blessing to. As we walked into her living room and we were answering his question about who he was going give a blessing to, he saw Sister King and began to cry. He immediately ran up to her, hugged her, kissed her, and they cried together. Turns out Brother Ke knew Sister King while in Taiwan however they haven’t seen or talked to each other in 15 years. He was absolutely shocked to see her in the condition she was in. Brother Ke said he was really grateful we called him to come with us to perform the blessing or else he would have never known Sister King was here in Irvine and suffering from this disease. It was a very strong spiritual/emotional experience. The next day we actually went to Sister King's to pull her weeds and other yard work (we planned that 2 weeks ago before she called us for the blessing). She seemed to be doing a lot better when we saw her the next day but still struggling a lot. So sad.
